Career Training Center
Comprehensive Support Services
In conjunction with vocational instruction and community-based
work experience, all training programs provide individual and
group counseling, career guidance, and job preparation skills.
These support services are designed to help the consumers
develop essential skills in finding, obtaining and keeping a job,
workplace behaviors, and all workforce readiness skills.
Learning Enhancement Center
The CGS Learning Enhancement Center is equipped with
state-of-the-art, networked computer stations. This computer
lab serves as the hub for many key educational activities such
as SkillsTutor, an online program that helps the consumers
improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, language
arts, writing and basic arithmetical skills.
Job Development, Job Placement and Follow-up Services
CGS is committed to assisting our graduates to find
employment in the career field identified in their IPEs. The
process of job development and placement begins before the
consumers have graduated from a CGS training program – and
follow-up continues after they’ve been placed on a job.
CGS works closely with each consumer to teach appropriate
workplace behaviors, resume preparation, job application
training, job-seeking techniques, interviewing skills and
long-term job retention. The Job Developer, in turn, works closely
with the consumers to find positions that will use their skills and
meet their own valued outcomes. And during the job placement process – especially on interviews - the consumer puts into action all of the “soft skills” that have been so thoroughly taught and practiced since Day 1 at CGS!
CGS also offers follow-up services for our consumers, and functions as a liaison between our consumers and the corporate world. CGS consumers are well prepared for the world of work – but occasionally need extra assistance in resolving especially challenging workplace quandaries. The CGS staff provide intervention and counseling as needed to enable the newly-employed consumer to resolve incipient problems quickly and to perform their jobs to the satisfaction of their employers.
