CGS training and job placement begin with vocational
assessment; the consumer’s vocational strengths and
weaknesses are evaluated via interviews, behavioral
observations, work samples, situational assessments
and career counseling. An Individualized Plan for
Employment (IPE) based on the results charts a course
to a career for each consumer and forms the basis for
occupational training and job placement.

CGS offers four types of vocational assessment; each
type is offered as either a stand-alone service or as part
of the vocational rehabilitation services at CGS.

General Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation (DVE) – 5 to 15 days
Focuses on work readiness and general skill identification; uses standardized work samples.

Community Based Situational Assessment – up to 5 days
Held in a community based setting; the Vocational Evaluator appraises the consumer’s actual hands-on work.

Community Based Workplace Assessment – up to 10 days
This evaluation is done on an individual basis at a work site in accordance with the consumer’s interests and employment factors.

Standardized and Specialized Testing – up to 10 hours
Measures a consumer’s academic achievement, aptitudes, cognitive abilities, personality traits, vocational interests, and sensory-motor skills; uses standardized, nationally accepted assessment instruments – testing may be hands-on, paper-and-pencil and / or online.

During the DVE experience, Vocational Evaluators help consumers develop practical strategies for overcoming potential barriers to employment. At the conclusion of the DVE, the consumer and his or her VESID Counselor meet with the Vocational Evaluator to discuss the evaluation results and recommendations and to finalize the plan for employment.
