CGS Speech Communication Enhancement

Speech Therapy is provided by a speech pathologist who is a specialist that evaluates and treats clients, both adults and children, who have deficits or delays in articulation, dysphagia (swallowing), dysfluency (stuttering), expressive language delays, receptive language delays, voice disorders, and patients who have had a laryngectomy.

At CGS the population consists of:

  • Those who have articulation deficits, either from English as a second language, or from physiological or social causes.
  • Those who have dysfluency issues. These are mostly men, and the treatment consists of easy onset, correct breathing, and smooth connected speech.
  • Those who have voice disorders. These consist of problems with intensity, rate, pitch and abusive patterns.
  • Those who have street language excessively or who use incorrect grammar. Treatment consists of changing language patterns and learning the correct structure of language.
  • Those who have a limited descriptive vocabulary.
  • Those who need improved skills in taking a successful job placement interview.
  • Treatment consists of enhancing self-confidence, emphasizing the importance of eye contact, stressing preparation, and enabling the consumer to anticipate and answer any questions relating to job skills that are likely to arise.
