CGS Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation
CGS training and job placement begin with a 15-day vocational evaluation process. The Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation (DVE) assesses consumer assets and limitations through interviews, behavioral observations, work samples, situational assessments and career counseling. An Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for employment based on these results charts a course to a career for each consumer and forms the basis of occupational training and job placement activities.
Consumer skills, interests and preferences are assessed for the best match among the following career options that have high labor demands:
- Office Technology and Clerical Skills
- Mailroom / Messenger Tasks
- Retail Merchandising
- Food Service Occupations
- Child Care and Child Development Associate (CDA)
- Hospitality Careers
During the DVE experience, professional staff help consumers develop practical strategies for overcoming potential barriers to success. At the conclusion of the evaluation period, each consumer and VESID counselor meet to discuss the recommendations of the evaluation team and to finalize the Individualized Employment Plan.
Consumers are actively involved in the formation of an employment plan that includes career awareness, job opportunities, and occupational skills. Consumers play an active role throughout the process as they develop the skills, attitudes and behaviors that are essential for successful competitive employment.CGS
